Helping Rookies Solve Nursing Home Problems
Author: Ed Long, Co-founder of H.E.L.P.
Have a family member or friend in a nursing home? Most of us are “rookies” in such a situation, with little idea of what to do when an admission, payment, care, Medicare, eviction or other problem arises.
Help is available. Last night I attended a terrific community class presented by Eric Carlson, Esq. of the National Senior Citizens Law Center. Titled “Solving Nursing Home Problems,” the class was a wonderfully interactive discussion on how to solve nursing home problems. A big part of Eric’s message is that we need to be assertive advocates for nursing home residents. A large part of being effective is knowing how the rules work, and Eric did a great job explaining many of them.
Eric is a nationally-known expert on nursing home rules, and on helping residents obtain better care. Eric has written a book called “20 Common Nursing Home Problems — and How to Resolve Them.” While it’s not as good as having Eric with you in person, using it is a great way to provide better help for your family member or friend. Eric’s book is surprisingly inexpensive, and you can order or even print out the book online.
